John Kiarie is a Kenyan politician and a member of parliament representing Dagoretti South Constituency in Nairobi County.
He was first elected to Parliament in August 2017 on the Jubilee Party ticket and secured re-election in August 2022 under the United Democratic Alliance.
Educational Background of John Kiarie
John Kiarie sat his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education at Kileleshwa Primary School in 1991.
He then proceeded to Dagoretti High School, where he sat his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1995.
John Kiarie advanced to the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, obtaining a Certificate in Information Technology between 1995 and 1996.

Career
Before his political career, Kiarie built a diverse professional portfolio including comedy, journalism, media, and communications consultancy.
From 1994 to 2007, he worked as a columnist and correspondent at the Nation Media Group, while simultaneously co-founding the satirical troupe Redykyulass.
Between 2000 and 2007, Kiarie also directed Redykyulass Limited, before transitioning to roles such as Art Director at Ogilvy & Mather (2003–2007), Creative Director at Scanad Advertising (2008–2011), and Communications Consultant at Scanad (2011–2017).
During the same years, he held directorships at Youth Agenda (2003–2008), Athi Water Services Board (2009–2012), and Transend Media Group (2010–2017).
Simultaneously with his media roles, he taught at State House Girls School in 2000 and Materi Girls Centre in 1996.
Political Career and Committee Roles
Kiarie launched his political journey with an unsuccessful parliamentary bid in 2007 and 2013 under ODM before joining Jubilee in 2016.
In 2017, he secured the Jubilee nomination and won the parliamentary seat.
In the 13th Parliament, which commenced in August 2022, he was appointed Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation, and additionally serves on the Education Committee.
Legislative Initiatives and Public Engagement
Kiarie oversaw the establishment of Lenana School Primary in June 2024, the first public primary school in Ngando Ward, fast-tracked in response to a tragic incident in 2019.
In 2024, he also initiated Kenya’s first school feeding programme, serving over 22,000 meals daily in public schools.
In November 2024, John Kiarie graduated with a master’s degree in development communications, completing a journey he described as ‘education in old age’.
Kiarie also proposed the creation of a National Science Museum in parliament to inspire innovation, reflecting his commitment to science and cultural preservation.
