Musa Sirma Cherutich is a Kenyan politician and the current member of parliament for the Eldama Ravine Constituency.
He is the former minister for East African and Regional Cooperation in Kenya.
Musa was reelected as a member of parliament in the 2022 general elections on a United Democratic (UDA) Party ticket.
Educational background of Musa Sirma
Musa Sirma began his education at Kabimoi Primary School between 1969 and 1975, where he sat his Certificate of Primary Education exams.
He attended Baringo High School from 1976 to 1979, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam.
Musa then studied at Njoro High School, completing his A-Levels (Advanced Certificate of Education) between 1980 and 1981.
Later, between 1983 and 1986, he earned a Diploma in Forestry from Egerton University.
Most recently, he completed a Bachelor of Business Management at Mount Kenya University between 2013 and 2016.
Career Information
Before joining politics, Musa Sirma served as the District Forest Officer for the Kenya Forest Service from 1986 to 1997.
His political career began in 1997 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Eldama Ravine Constituency.
He ran on a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket and successfully secured the seat.
Musa Sirma served continuously as the MP for Eldama Ravine from 1997 until 2013, representing his constituency for sixteen years.
During this period, he was an active member of Parliament and contributed to various legislative activities.
Between 2010 and 2013, Musa Sirma held the important position of Minister for East African Community Affairs in the Government of Kenya.
In this role, he was responsible for managing Kenya’s relations and integration efforts with the East African Community countries.
His comeback in politics
From 2013 to 2016, while out of Parliament, he pursued further education and earned a Bachelor of Business Management degree from Mount Kenya University. This period marked a break in his political career for personal and professional development.
Between 2013 and 2022, Musa Sirma was out of Parliament and did not hold any elected political office. However, he remained active in political circles during this time.
In August 2022, Musa Sirma made a comeback to politics by being re-elected as the MP for Eldama Ravine, this time sponsored by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Currently, he holds the position of Chairperson of the National Assembly Select Committee on the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), overseeing developmental fund matters for constituencies nationwide.
