Catherine Wambilianga is a Kenyan politician and the current woman’s representative for Bungoma County.
She was elected in 2017 and later reelected in the 2022 general elections under the FORD-KENYA Party.
Educational background of Catherine Wambilianga
Catherine Wambilianga began her formal education at Misikhu Primary School, completing her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1980.
She went on to attend Misikhu Girls for her ‘O’ Levels from 1981 to 1984 and then proceeded to Lugulu Girls for her ‘A’ Levels, which she completed in 1985.
She later earned a Bachelor of Education degree from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology between 2007 and 2011.
She is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Nairobi.
Career information
Catherine Wambilianga taught under the Teachers Service Commission from 1989 to 2011. She began teaching at Kapsowar Girls’ High School from 1989 to 1990.
She then moved to Koru Girls High School in 1990, where she taught until 1995.
Additionally, Wambilianga taught at Namawanga Girls Secondary School from 1995 to 2000, St. Mathews ACK Webuye from 2000 to 2003, and Matulo Secondary from 2003 to 2011.
From 2011 to 2017, she served as National Secretary for Gender at the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
She then joined politics and vied for a parliamentary seat in 2017, which she won.
In the 2022 general elections, Catherine Wambilianga was reelected to parliament as the Bungoma County women representative.
Since 2017 to date, Wambilianga has been a member of the Departmental Committee on Education, Research & Technology, and the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare
