NANCY MACHARIA 

Nancy Macharia is the Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Service Commission. She assumed office after Gabriel K. Lengoiboni.

She is set to go on terminal leave starting March 2025 as she awaits her official retirement in June of the same year.

Education background

Nancy Macharia’s academic qualifications are top-notch. The TSC boss graduated from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor of Education in English/Literature in 1987.

In 2002, Nancy pursued a master’s degree in education at Bristol University in the United Kingdom, specializing in management of policy studies.

Career life of Nancy Macharia 

According to Nancy Macharia’s biography, she started her career with the TSC as an assistant teacher. She has worked in the education sector for more than 28 years.

After completing her education at Kenyatta University, Nancy worked at Kahuhia Girls in Murang’a County. She worked here for five years until she was promoted to deputy head teacher at Kianderi Girls Secondary in the same county.

Nancy later left the teaching profession to become a staffing officer. Before being appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the TSC, she was a director of teacher management.

As a director-teacher manager, Nancy reported directly to the Chief Executive Officer and managed four senior deputies, 47 counties, 177 office staff and more than 1,500 field staff. Nancy’s most prominent role was negotiating with teachers’ unions to avoid conflict.

Nancy is exceptionally experienced in corporate governance, public procurement, Information Communication Technology (ICT), policy formulation, proactive management, and business excellence models.

A career educationist, Nancy Macharia is part of the Kenya Association of Public Administration (KAPAM) and Institute of Directors.
