Edward Wakili Muriu is a Kenyan commercial lawyer turned politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County.
Early Life and Education
Edward Wakili was born in Gatanga Constituency, and he studied in the local schools in Gatanga for his formal primary and secondary education.
In 1991, he pursued his higher education in law, enrolling at the University of Nairobi, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from 1988 to 1992.
Upon graduation, he proceeded to the Kenya School of Law in 1993, where he obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Law, a qualification that saw him admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
In 2000, he attended the Real Estate Finance Programme at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where he sharpened his expertise in property law and financial structuring.
By 2004, he had added corporate governance to his skill set through a Leadership Programme at the Commonwealth Institute of Directors in London.
Two years later, in 2006, Muriu pursued advanced training in international finance through a Syndicated Loans Training Course in London, gaining insights into cross-border financial transactions.
In 2017, he diversified his portfolio by training as an Executive Coach at the Academy of Executive Coaching (AoEC), London, which prepared him to mentor professionals and corporate leaders.

Professional career
After completing his postgraduate diploma at the Kenya School of Law in 1993, Edward Wakili Muriu was admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
In 1995, Muriu co-founded MMC Asafo, which has since grown into one of Kenya’s most prominent commercial law firms, specializing in banking, finance, real estate, and corporate advisory.
Over the years, he rose to become the Managing Partner, overseeing the firm’s expansion and its eventual integration into the pan-African law network, Asafo & Co.
By the 2000s, Muriu was not only a lawyer but also a consultant for major corporate clients, leveraging his training in real estate finance (2000) and syndicated loans (2006) to advise on multimillion-shilling transactions.
Alongside his corporate work, Muriu also developed a career in executive coaching, starting in 2017 after qualifying with the Academy of Executive Coaching in London.
He mentored senior managers, board directors, and politicians, helping them sharpen leadership strategies and decision-making skills.
Political career
Muriu joined politics in the run-up to the 2022 General Elections.
Running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, he contested and won the Gatanga Constituency parliamentary seat.

Since 2022, Muriu has served as the Member of Parliament for Gatanga, actively contributing to debates on economic reforms, corporate accountability, and the empowerment of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
