Joseph Mburu completed his secondary education at Queen of Apostles Seminary, earning his Form IV certification followed by A-Level credentials in 1985.
Pursuing an accountancy path, he undertook CPA Level 1 studies at Kimathi Institute and progressed to CPA Level 2 through private instruction via KASNEB between 1990 and 1994.

Professional career
Joseph Mburu Kahangara began his career in accounting and served as an accountant with Kenol-Kobil from 1990 to 1994.
He then transitioned to managerial roles, joining Caltex Mathioya from 1994 to 1996, followed by Universal Petrol Stations from 1999 to 2005.
In 2006, he rose up the ranks of Las Vegas Petroleum as Managing Director, continuing in that role to the present.
Political career
Joseph Mburu joined politics in 2013, when he contested for the seat of Member of Parliament for Lari Constituency, and continues to serve in the same role, securing re-election in 2022 under UDA.
During his earlier Parliamentary tenure (2013–2017), he contributed to key committees, including the Administration and National Security Committee and the Regional Integration Committee.
