Biography
Josephat Nanok is the current State House Comptroller. Nanok joined President William Ruto’s camp in 2021 and campaigned against his former party leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 elections.

The former Governor holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and History from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Business Administration from Strathmore University.
Politics
Nanok was first elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Turkana South constituency in 2007 under the ODM party. Following the enactment of the 2010 Constitution, the constituency was split into Turkana South and Turkana East constituencies.
During his time in Parliament, he also served as the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, as well as the Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, under the Government of National Accord with President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Building on his political career, Nanok contested for the Turkana gubernatorial seat on the ODM party ticket in the 2013 general elections and won. He successfully defended his seat in the 2017 general elections.
Moreover, he served as the Chairman of the Council of Governors (COG) from May 2017 to January 2019. In this role, Nanok succeeded former Meru Governor Peter Munya, becoming the third governor to lead the lobby that represents the common interests of the 47 counties.
Achievements
The first CoG Chairman was Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, who held the position from 2013 until May 21, 2015.
In October 2020, Turkana was recognized as one of the top 10 most improved devolved counties in a study conducted by Infotrak Research and Consulting for the 2019-2020 period. This recognition highlighted the county’s remarkable progress.
Moreover, the county saw a significant leap in service delivery rankings, rising from 42nd place in 2015 to 16th, further showcasing its development.
Before entering politics, Governor Nanok held several senior positions, including top consultancies with United Nations (UN) agencies in Kenya, South Sudan, and Eritrea. Additionally, he worked with Oxfam GB in Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan in similar capacities, where he gained extensive experience in humanitarian and development work.
