Career
Professional Career
Mohamed Ali’s media career began modestly, first as an intern TV producer at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in 2002, followed by a stint as a producer and radio presenter at Pwani FM in 2003, and then a role at Radio Salaam in 2006.
His breakthrough came in 2007 when he joined Kenya Television Network (KTN) as Chief Investigations Editor, a position he held until 2017.
There, he earned nationwide recognition through the Kiswahili investigative segment “Jicho Pevu,” where he and journalist John-Allan Namu exposed corruption, human rights abuses, and societal issues.
Ali handled the Kiswahili editions while Namu focused on English versions.
In 2016, alongside Namu and Kassim Mohammed, he co-founded Africa Uncensored, a non-profit investigative media initiative committed to independent journalism.
His media influence expanded further when he launched his own radio station in Mombasa in 2021, signaling his return to the airwaves and reinforcing his connection with the coastal region.

Undeterred by losing an ODM primary, where he accused the party of irregularities, he ran as an Independent and successfully won the parliamentary seat for Nyali Constituency in Mombasa County.
He joined the Special Funds Accounts Committee of Kenya’s National Assembly, utilizing his investigative skills to oversee public resources.
Ali retained his seat in the 2022 elections, this time running under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Despite battles with powerful local politicians, he framed himself as a practical, grassroots-oriented leader.
In February 2025, amid speculation about a future gubernatorial bid, he signalled his intent to pursue the Mombasa Governor seat in 2027, emphasizing the need for “development politics” over rhetoric.
