Omar Mwinyi Shimbwa is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament representing Changamwe Constituency in Mombasa County.
He was born on August 1, 1958, in Changamwe.
Educational Background of Omar Mwinyi
Omar Mwinyi began his education at Bomu Primary School from 1964 to 1971.
He completed his secondary education at Allidina Visram High School between 1972 and 1975.
Following that, from 1977 to 1979, he trained as a teacher at Kagumo Teachers’ College, earning qualifications that launched his career in education.
Career
Omar Mwinyi started his professional life in the education sector.
Between 1979 and 1981, he taught at Marereni Primary School in Malindi and was then promoted to deputy headteacher at Mwajibu Primary School in Mombasa until 1987.
He served as head teacher at Chaani Primary from 1987 to 1988 and later at Bomu Primary from 1988 to 1990, bringing over a decade of classroom and administrative experience.
In 1991, Mwinyi began his political journey as the national chairman of the Islamic Party of Kenya, which later merged with Ford-Kenya.
Mwinyi entered mainstream politics and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Changamwe Constituency in 2013 under the ODM banner.
He successfully defended his seat in the 2017 and 2022 general elections.
During his time in Parliament, he has served on committees including Public Works, Roads & Transport, Lands, and Powers & Privileges.
Currently, Mwinyi serves as the Member of Parliament representing his constituency.
