Billionaire Richard Ngatia is the President of the East African Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (EACCIA) and one of Kenya’s most influential business leaders.
He is also the immediate former President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), where he previously served as the Chamber President from 2019.
Ngatia has held several high-profile regional roles, including Chair of the IGAD Business Council and Chairman of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Private Sector Forum, an intergovernmental body representing 12 African states.
Further, he has served as Special Business Advisor to the Council of Governors for 4 years and is a Patron of Health Relief International Kenya, as well as a Deputy Patron of the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations.
A prominent entrepreneur, Ngatia is also the Managing Director and CEO of Megascope Healthcare Kenya Limited, a major supplier and distributor of medical equipment in the region.
Ngatia has also been active in politics. He made an unsuccessful bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections and is known as a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In July 2025, he lost his bid for a second term as KNCCI President to Erick Rutto.
Beyond business and public service, Ngatia sits on several boards, including the East Africa Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and serves as a trustee of the Pubs and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK).

Ngatia and the KEMSA Scandal
In a September 2020 Senate report, Megascope was linked to the KSh63 billion Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) medical kits scandal.
A Transparency International report indicated that the firm was among those awarded contracts worth over KSh 1 billion at KEMSA.
However, the businessman denied the claims, insisting that the firm was not part of the infamous KEMSA scandal.

Ngatia is the brains behind the Galileo chain of hotels and lounges.
The most famous outlet in his chain is the Galileo Lounge, which is located along Waiyaki Way in Westlands.
The club, popular with prominent figures such as politicians and businessmen, is touted as the haven of the city’s best nightlife.
It features a luxurious, spacious design with stylish fittings and private spaces.
The city tycoon is also the deputy patron of the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Association.
