The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has paid glowing tribute to Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) Chairman Johnson Matheka, who died in a Mombasa Road accident.
In a statement released on February 17, 2025, TSC commission secretary Nancy Njeri stated that Nzioka has served as a teacher for 38 years.

“It is with profound shock and sadness that I have learnt of the passing on of the K Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) Chairman Johnson Matheka through a road accident on Mombasa Road near Athi River yesterday evening,” the statement read.
TSC Heartfelt Tribute to Matheka
Further, she praised Nzioka for his teaching dedication as he worked with the TSC and his incredible academic performance.

According to the statement, Matheka transitioned from the position of a classroom teacher in 1987 to headship in 2012.
Till his demise, he was the headteacher of Donholm Primary School and Junior Secondary Schools in Nairobi.

Nancy further stated that his peerless delivery of service led him to a litany of professional achievements and success.
His greatest achievement was his election as the national chairman of the more than 23,000-member Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA).
In addition, Kenya has lost one of its most gallant academic soldiers, a man who will be missed by the teaching fraternity.
Barasa, on behalf of the Teachers Commission, has wished heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Nzioka during the sad mourning period.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace, accept our deepest condolences,” she said.

Ruto Pays Tribute
Additionally, the president of Kenya William Ruto has sent a condolence message to the family and friends of Nzioka Matheka.
In his message, he praised Matheka as a distinguished educationist who advocated for the welfare of head teachers in our country.
“He was visionary and devoted his time to grooming upright and industrious students. Our prayers are with the family and the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association fraternity, ” his message read.
Matheka Nzioka
Matheka Nzioka passed away yesterday in a road accident along Mombasa Road.
He died on the spot during the accident. However, police have launched an ongoing investigation into the car crash.
He was a long-serving teacher with over 38 years of experience.
Additionally, he was elected as the KEPSHA chairman in 2021, after its former chairperson Nicholas Gathemia retired.

While serving as KEPSHA chairman, he remained steadfast in his mission to promote primary school standards, and headteacher welfare, and foster partnerships that benefit learners and teachers.
He served as the Organizing Secretary of the Federation of East African Primary Schools Headteachers that promoted the education sector.
He was actively involved in extracurricular activities in the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association and served as the chairman in 2015.
