“This is just a little piece of advice to everyone I have seen auditioning for radio, trying to get a slot on I don’t’ understand why you want to join the mainstream media. Right now, you have the platforms to just start a show and talk about what you are passionate about…,” said Amina.
Personal platforms come with freedom
Amina went on to say that having a platform comes with freedom to do what one wishes, without being tied to specific rules and guidelines.

Drawing from her experience, Amina said being in mainstream media is detrimental to a presenter, stating that they bring in revenue from their hard work but take home very little.
“If you are going to build a brand from some mainstream channel, they own you. You are literally a puppet, and they own you. That’s me, I am a puppet, I’m owned I don’t want you to be a puppet. I want you to make the most money you can make. I have made so much money for the companies I have worked with I have worked at, very little came to me. I was on a salary, and it wasn’t that much compared to the millions you are a bringing in a year or a month or a quarter,” stated Amina.

“If anyone comes to me and tells me they want to join mainstream media whether its TV or radio I ask them, have you thought of starting a YouTube channel? Have you thought of starting a podcast yourself? Why do you need a station? When you build that platform for a couple of years its yours, all the revenue that comes to that channel will be yours,” said Amina.
