Steve Jacob Maunda, popularly known as Shatta Bway, has left Radio Citizen one of Royal Media Services’ (RMS) flagship brands.
Together with Q-Tee and DJ Rambo, Bway hosted Waks Tikitaka show on Radio Citizen, a mid-morning show that airs 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
She also occasionally appeared on Citizen TV for sports shows.
During a live session on Monday, March 18, Bway explained that he was leaving the media industry to raise his two children, after his wife died in June 2023.
Shatta Bway to focus on children
“Where I am at in life, I am making decisions as two parents. I must think like a mother and as a father and I need time with my children. My son is a teenager aged 13 years old and that is the point a parent is like to lose their children unknowingly,” he explained.
Before his wife died, Shatta promised to follow the demands that his wife had made before her last breath.
“Go home and protect the children, I’m resting,” Shatta Bway’s wife pleaded.
“I feel I need time with the children at this moment. I can’t be in a career that will tie me down daily limiting me from accomplishing what I want to do with my children,” Shatta Bway added.

Career journey
Shatta Bway was born in Pumwani grew up in Shauri Moyo. He later moved to Ukambani .
“I wanted to be a pilot, an Airforce pilot,” he stated during the live session.
Shatta also talked about his life before joining the media industry, working a tout.

” For two years, I worked as a tout on a bus that traveled the Nairobi-Kisii-Migori circuit. At the time, I was still a college student majoring in media studies.
Later, I decided to give acting a try and attended Kenya National Theater, where I got roles as a set books character. It was a challenging task,” he recalled.
