The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO, Ezekiel Mutua has responded to criticism regarding the attire of a lady at the Marwa Music Awards held at the Kenyatta Internation Convention Centre – KICC on March 11, 2024.
In a statement shared, Mutua sough to clear the air, emphasizing on the organizer’s professionalism and suitability for the occasion.
“Seen people trying to create unnecessary controversy about the photos of one of the organizers at the Marwa Music Awards who was handling protocols at the KICC last evening,” noted Mutua.
“To me she is impeccably dressed for the occasion and those trying to raise issue about the dress are totally out of order.”
The MCSK boss has also acknowledged the woman claiming that he would have been proud if she was his daughter.
“If she was my daughter, I would have been very proud of her,” said Ezekiel.
He further defended her attire, stating that she adhered to the dress code for an evening event.
“Secondly when you are invited to an event you do not choose who comes to receive you or how they should dress.,” the MCSK leader emphasized.
“Unless you live in cages, a dress like this for an evening event should not raise any issue. Leave my sister alone!”
Ezekiel Mutua on Organizer’s Dressing
However, Ezekiel Mutua’s defense sparked mixed reaction on social media, highlighting differing opinions on dress codes, personal autonomy, and the role of moral standards in society.
Some criticized the inconsistency in Mutua’s stance.
“On one hand, you are fighting nudity. On the other hand, you are for scanty dressing just because someone is comfortable in her skin. Which is which?” commented Samson Ogola on Facebook.

Another netizen suggested that Mutua’s approval of the attire reflected on his own values, remarking, “But approving it says a lot about you as well.”
Some users highlighted the importance of modesty and mentorship for the younger generation.
“It would have been better to remain silent… The young generation should be mentored well,” noted Daphine Naila
Fans React Over Mutua’s Remarks
Others criticized Mutua’s perceived imposition of moral standards, emphasizing individual autonomy in matters of dress.
The discussion extended to the suitability of an attire for official functions, with other Kenyans emphasizing the need to look presentable in different occasions.

“That dress is not appropriate for official functions unless her agenda was misplaced. Also, you are going for dinner with your spouse. Rules of dressing states that your choice of attire should not expose both upper and lower body at the same time,” shared Vee Juma.
However other social media users supported the MCSK leader commenting that the lady was decently dressed.
“She is fit for her job. I love her confidence and esteem,” shared Sen Daisy.
Marwa Awards Attendees
The second edition of Marwa Awards was held at the Tsavo ballroom at KICC to recognize exceptional talents from the Luo Community. Mama Ida Odinga was the chief guest.
Other prominent guests were, Willis Raburu, Oga Obina, Ohangla, Musa Jakadala and Prince Indah.
The charged night saw several winners receive awards.
