Mbosso to Quit Diamond’s Wasafi Records; New Artists to Be Signed

Tanzania’s Bongo artist Mbosso is set to quit Diamond Platinumz’s WCB Wasafi Record Label after eight years.

Diamond’s close friend Baba Levo announced that Mbosso would be allowed to leave the record label without any financial demands. He added that this is a result of the great respect that Mbosso holds for Diamond.

He also stated that the record label is set to sign nine new artists in 2025.

Why Mbosso is leaving Wasafi free

“Out of the great respect that Mbosso has for Diamond and the leaders of Wasafi Records, Diamond has opened the doors to Mbosso to go out and explore as an independent artist. Nine new artists are set to be signed in 2025,” stated Baba Levo.

Mbosso had initially stated that he had no plans of leaving Wasafi but also stated that he would leave the label while in good terms with everyone.

“Nikitakiwa niondoke Wasafi basi nafikiria wakina Diamond wataniambia ‘sasa hivi sasa unatakiwa uondoke hapa yaani ushakuwa, ushakuwa babu… nataka nikae kwenye nafasi ambayo sitaki iwe na chuki na mtu yeyote (If I am to leave Wasafi Diamond and the other leaders will tell me now you are of age, I want to leave at a place where I have no bad blood with anyone),” stated Mbosso.

The artist joined with the record label in 2017. His music career flourished as the label helped him gain more popularity and visibility. He has produced great hits including ‘Tamu’ and Hodari’.

Harmonize bitter split with Wasafi

Unlike Mbosso, Harmonize and Rich Mavoko engaged in long-standing squabbles while leaving Wasafi Records.

Harmonize accused Diamond of jealousy as he feared that Harmonize’s music would thrive more than his.

He also accused Diamond of paying people to tarnish his name and intentionally blocking the success of other artists. It was for this reason that Harmonize left Wasafi.

“Whenever a musician starts shining, they usually fall out with Diamond. For example, Shetta and Ommy Dimpoz were close to him, but once they started shining, they became enemies. Most successful artists have had beef with Diamond. Look at Ali Kiba, Ben Pol, and many more,” stated Harmonize.
