Popular Kenyan veteran Disc Jockey George Waweru, alias DJ Kalonje, has threatened to sue renowned MC and television host Oga Obinna over alleged defamatory remarks.
In a letter dated August 21, DJ Kalonje, through his legal team, claimed that defamatory remarks were made in a video posted on Obinna’s YouTube channel on Monday, August 19, 2024.
“We have been duly retained by DJ Kalonje and Mixmasters Entertainment Limited (hereinafter referred to as “our client”), which has instructed us to address you as follows: On 19th August 2024, you posted a video on your YouTube channel, Obinna TV Extra, with the above-mentioned title where you stated that the director of our client one, DJ Kalonje, cannot play live mixes despite the same not being true,” the demand letter reads.
Demand Letter Addressed to Oga Obinna
Consequently, the veteran Digital content creator has demanded that Obinna issue an apology live on air for his utterances during the show.
“Our client has therefore instructed us to DEMAND, which we hereby do, that you immediately and unconditionally apologize to our client’s director live on air for knowingly making the false utterances,” the legal letter further reads.
Obinna was directed to issue an apology within seven days failure to which Dj Kalonje’s legal team will proceed to file a case against him.
“TAKE NOTICE that should you fail to admit liability and make good of our client’s DEMAND within seven (7) days from the date of your receipt hereof, we shall proceed to institute the requisite legal proceedings against you at your own cost, risk and consequences,” the lawyers wrote.

What Oga Obinna Said During the Live Show
During his live show, Obinna revealed details of an event at Zetech University where he was an MC. He said DJ Kalonje had been booked for the event to entertain guests and attendees.
It is at this point that Obinna made claims with regards to how the DJ performed making claims that has since landed him in trouble with Kalonje.
He noted that he saved Kalonje during the event adding that the disc jockey owes him gratitude for that.

DJ Kalonje Speaks on his Decision
Kalonje while taking to his Instagram account said he was shocked to be dragged into someone else’s interview and criticized Obinna for attempting to tarnish his name and brand for the sake of gaining views and likes.
In his statement, DJ Kalonje emphasized the seriousness of his brand and his refusal to entertain any form of defamation, whether intended as a joke or not.
“Your complete disregard for others when you recklessly spew harmful statements about someone else’s brand is not only appalling but utterly irresponsible,” he said.
“I have dedicated years of hard work to building my reputation, and your actions are nothing short of unprofessional and immature.”
