Kenyan singer, model, and radio presenter Tanasha Donna was elated after receiving a European leadership award in Belgium.
To commemorate International Women’s Rights Day, nine women, including Tanasha, from various parts of the world received the European Women’s International Leadership Award on Monday, March 6th, 2023.
The award was started four years ago with the aim of celebrating extraordinary women. It is awarded to women who, at a certain moment of their life, decided to follow their dream, to break with traditional obligations around them, to challenge male-dominated areas, to act respectfully to give an example to all those women who do not (yet) dare to raise their voice and to develop their potential.

Through her Instagram account, Tanasha shared a video of her virtual speech, first apologizing for not availing herself physically and proceeding to congratulate the other winners she was honored alongside.
“A huge Congratulations to all the amazing women who won as well. A bit sad I couldn’t physically make it. This is big for me…. & This is not just my win, but this is for ALL the female leaders who have a positive influence & impact on today’s society.”
When explaining why they chose Tanasha, the selecting panel hailed her for being featured in a Nollywood musical blockbuster, Symphony, which captures the difficulties of talented African youth, and their struggle against all odds to succeed.
They also described her as someone interested in motivating, touching, and positively inspiring others through her music by expressing and exploring new ways grounded in afro-soul, afro-fusion, and Ama piano.
Tanasha a Nairobi-based artist, was born in England, grew up in Kenya, and spent half of her life in Belgium; This life allowed her to communicate fluently in five languages.
