Fifteen people were killed, and twenty-nine others injured in a road accident at Twin bridge area along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the traffic crash happened at around 2a.m on Tuesday, January,9, 2024.
“The crash involved a bus belonging to Classic Kings of Congo and North Ways Shuttle Toyota matatu,” said NPS.
NPS Oficers stationed at Mau Summit Police Station responded to the scene in efforts to restore order and coordinate evacuation of casualties.
“The injured with 7 in critical condition were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital,” said Kenya red Cross.
Kuresoi North Police Sub-County Commander Judah Gathenge confirmed that the dead included eight adults and seven children.
He further said the Classic bus was headed to Nairobi while the shuttle was moving in the opposite direction.
Some of the victims died on the spot while others succumbed while receiving treatment.
Officials from the Kenya Red Cross, Nakuru County fire brigade, County ambulance and Kenya Police have been at the scene since 2:30 a.m.
The NPS has appealed to all motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads to prevent such crashes.

Nakuru-Eldoret Highway Accident
This comes three days after one person died while 32 people were injured in another accident along the same highway.
The crash which involved four vehicles happened on Saturday, January 6 at around 5a.m.
Additionally, five people died after a road accident involving multiple vehicles at Timboroa area along the same highway on January 4.
Police said the incident involved a passenger bus and three other vehicles including a probox.
The NPS said three people were killed on the spot while two others died while receiving treatment at the Eldama Ravine Sub- County Hospital.

NTSA Road Safety Status 2023
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) road safety status as of December 31, 2023, show that 2,080 fatalities were recorded in 2023/2024 as compared to 2,378 registered during the same period in the previous year.
Further, 10,115 serious and slight injuries were reported in the 2023/2024 financial year compared to 8,604 in the 2022/2023 year.
“There is a decrease of 12.53% in absolute deaths in this financial year as compared to same period last financial year (2022/2023),” said NTSA.
Pedestrians recorded the highest number of deaths, 788 followed by motorcyclists, 55 and passengers, 324.
“The highest number of road fatalities is pedestrian deaths at 37.88%. In the same period last year, this category of road users’ contribution was 35.62%,” added the Authority.
Besides, other categories of causalities included pillion passengers (190), drivers (184) and pedal cyclist (39).
