Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohamed has publicly accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his brother Muhoho Kenyatta of mismanaging funds meant for Azimio election agents during the 2022 General Election, a move he claims played a decisive role in Raila Odinga’s defeat.
Junet was responding to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who accused him of failing to remit funds to the party and leaving election agents unpaid.
Junet on Uhuru and His Brother Muhoho
“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta released the funds meant for election agents to his blood brother, Muhoho Kenyatta. Muhoho Kenyatta then appointed one Mr Patrick Mburu to take charge of the recruitment and payment of agents,” Junet said in a press statement.
Junet added that Mburu, presenting himself as an IT expert, “remains an aide of Uhuru Kenyatta. Just this past weekend, Mburu travelled to Nigeria in the company of Uhuru Kenyatta and Kalonzo Musyoka—clear evidence that he is not a peripheral figure in these matters.”
He also claimed that Muhoho operated from a restricted office in Westlands, inaccessible even to Raila Odinga, from which agent payments and logistics were allegedly managed.
According to the Leader of the Minority in the National Assembly, once Uhuru and Muhoho took control, no agents were recruited for Raila Odinga in key regions such as Mt. Kenya and Luo Nyanza.
He emphasised his loyalty to Odinga, noting his appointment as Leader of Minority in the National Assembly as evidence of his long-standing service to the party.
Junet challenged Uhuru, Muhoho, Mburu, and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to publicly clarify the handling of election agents’ funds, insisting that Kenyans deserve the truth about who controlled and mishandled the money and who ultimately cost the party the election.
“These are facts, not conjecture. I challenge Uhuru Kenyatta and Muhoho Kenyatta to publicly deny these facts,” he stated.

He described the mismanagement as a “long con game” that directly impacted the party’s performance in the election.
Sifuna’s Accusations
Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary General accused Junet Mohamed during a funeral speech on January 3, 2026.
The event was the burial of Alice Wangari Gakuya, mother of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, in Makomboki, Murang’a County.
In his remarks, Sifuna defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s substantial financial support for Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential campaign, while directly accusing Junet of receiving funds from Uhuru but failing to remit them fully to the party.
Sifuna further claimed that Junet misappropriated part of the funds, personally enriching himself rather than paying election agents, leading to agents being absent or unpaid in key areas and ultimately contributing to Raila’s election loss.

“When did Uhuru’s money become bad? … Back then, you were taking that money and not even bringing it all to the party. You ate some alone with your wives,” Sifuna said.
“You were eating Uhuru’s money instead of paying agents … If it wasn’t for you stealing and eating the money with your wives, we would be in government,” he added.
Sifuna also called for a full audit of the 2022 election spending, placing the blame for unpaid agents squarely on Junet’s actions.
The public allegations prompted Junet Mohamed to issue his detailed press statement, defending his conduct and laying out what he described as a deliberate mishandling of campaign funds by Uhuru Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, and Patrick Mburu.
