Five Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates of Arap Moi primary school in Tarakwa Uasin Gishu County died after a boat they were riding in at a popular amusement park capsized.
The tragedy according to the authorities struck the school on Saturday, October 28 at about 5pm in what was meant to be a fun day out for the five KCPE candidates.
According to the police, the five were part of a group of Standard Six and Standard Eight pupils accompanied by teachers to a hotel for recreational activities.
However, the pupils upon arrival at the amusement park took a boat ride on the man-made dam together with their teachers when it capsized.

Candidate Who Survived
According to police reports, only one of the pupils onboard the boat survived the gruesome ordeal and was rushed to the hospital.
Moreover, the pupil is set to sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) test that assesses sixth graders.
“Only one of those who were in the boat and who is a class six pupil survived, “police said.
The pupil was rushed to Burnt Forest Sub County Hospital and later to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention.

Further the teams from the fire brigade and the Kenya Red Cross Society were at the scene to retrieve the bodies which were later moved to Burnt Forest Hospital where they were confirmed dead.
Afterwards the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue.

Nonetheless, angry parents stormed the school seeking to know the whereabouts of their children.
The sub-county security committee summoned an emergency meeting on how to handle the unprecedented crisis as tensions went high in the school.
KCPE& KPSEA Exams
According to the Ministry of Education the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examinations (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will run from October 30 to November 24.
About 1.4 million are KCPE candidates, 1.2 million KAPSEA candidates while 903,260 will sit for the KCSE exams.
