Kisa East Member of County Assembly aspirant, Isaiah Ayaya, has declined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nomination.
In a letter dated October 2, Ayaya thanked ODM for considering him as a candidate but explained that the nomination certificate had been issued before the consultations were fully concluded.
“I write to sincerely thank the Orange Democratic Movement for reaching out to me with a view to having me run as its party candidate in the forthcoming by-elections for the member of the County Assembly for Kisa East,” read the letter.
“Regrettably, the nomination certificate was drawn and issued in my name before consultations could reach their logical conclusion.”
Ayaya Ditches ODM Nominations for DAP-K
On October 1, the ODM party issued a statement saying that Isaiah, along with others, had been presented with nomination certificates.
“Our candidate for the Kisa East MCA seat in the November 27 by-election, Abraham Isaiah Ayaya, was today presented with the nomination certificate by the chairperson of NECC, Hon. Emily Awitta. The earlier nomination of Thomas Eshuya Oyolo has been revoked,” read the statement.
He further noted that by the time ODM reached out to him, his name had already been forwarded to the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), where he is a life member.
Consequently, he returned the ODM nomination certificate issued on 1st September 2025, reaffirming his commitment to DAP-K.

While addressing the press, Ayaya stated that he wanted to clarify the party to which he belongs.
“Contrary to reports that I have joined another party, I want to state that I remain firmly committed to DAP-K. I do not want to be seen as a leader who switches parties,” he said.
“The ODM party, it’s true, wanted to give me this certificate, but by the time the opportunity passed. This is the certificate I was given by ODM at Orange House, and I will return it. The party I belong to is DAP-K.”

Drama After ODM Announced Kasipul Aspirant
The ODM party primaries in Kasipul were marred by scenes of violence, allegations of rigging, low voter turnout, and delays.
Additionally, vehicles belonging to several aspirants were vandalized, allegedly by goons.
This came after ODM’s primaries on September 24, where Boyd Were, son of the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, secured the party’s ticket to contest the November 27 by-election.
ODM national chairperson Gladys Wanga, the Homa Bay Governor, confirmed the election results.
“I wish to wholeheartedly congratulate Boyd Were on his victory in the ODM party primaries. The people of Kasipul have spoken, and they have chosen a candidate they believe will champion their interests,” she said.
