Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP), Babu Owino, has opened up about his decision to pursue Karate training.
In an interview with content creator Andrew Kibe, the MP revealed that he enrolled in Karate training not just for his physical fitness but also to enjoy life and improve his self-defense.
The MP further highlighted the importance of self-defense especially in Kenya’s political arena where politicians have in the past been involved in violence.
“Unajua pale bunge banah, mtu anaweza kuja akakuslap tu. (You know you can be in parliament then someone just slaps you from nowhere) So you must be in a position that in such an eventuality what will happen,” shared Babu.
He also stressed the importance of playing games for physical fitness and good health.
“In terms of physical fitness, it is also very healthy to play games. You know, Andrew, we can also play chase after this,” Babu Owino humorously told Kibe.
Babu Owino’s Family Life
Transitioning to his personal life, Babu Owino shared the challenges he faced growing up in his family.
Currently pursuing his third Masters degree in Economics, the MP spoke about his family’s financial struggles and how his mother, despite limited resources, prioritized his education.

“My father died while I was in class 3, and due to poverty, my mother decided to educate me since I was the last born,” Owino revealed.
He acknowledged that his academic pursuits were not only for himself but for his entire family, breaking the cycle of limited education opportunities.
Discussing the controversial 2023 National exams, Babu Owino claimed that the changing results and missing marks were intentional acts by the government.
He claimed it was an effort to control and save on education funding, emphasizing the unfairness imposed on the students.
Affordable Housing by The Govt
On the topic of affordable housing, the MP took a stand against the government’s involvement, stating that the houses will highly influence Rural-Urban migration with village people innocently moving to towns for free houses unaware of the high rental cost.
He criticized the idea, asserting that the President might not fully understand the implications and should not overpromise.
“As a president, he should not overpromise. If he knows that he has many promises that he made, he should lie to people that he promised and not the general Kenyans,” Babu Owino remarked.

The MP also criticized the President’s approach in threatening citizens, stating, “The President should stop threatening people on how he always says that there are three things in Kenya; Death, jail, or you relocate from Kenya.”
Transitioning to the current leadership and the challenges faced by the people, Babu Owino hinted at a coming revolution to change Kenyan lives.
He emphasized the suffering of the people, stating, “People have challenges. People are suffering, and they have more to lose other than the chains that are tied on them because, after all, they are going to die of hunger.”
Reflecting on his role as a leader, Babu Owino asserted that serving the people is a calling from God.
He traced his leadership journey from primary school to his current position, highlighting his consistent commitment to service.
“My greatest problem and challenge are to ensure that I change a life, and the evidence is on my reelection back to Embakasi constituency seat,” Babu Owino concluded, expressing his dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those he represents.
