A family is in shock after their kin was hospitalized after eating a raw snake. The 15-year-old boy from Chemogoch Village, Bomet County, is currently being treated at Litein Mission Hospital following bizarre incident.
It is reported that the teenager hunted a green tree snake while he was selling local brew to some of the locals at a certain river.
“This young man is fifteen years old. He had now started that business of selling chang’aa. When he started selling chang’aa near the river, they saw a snake. The people he was selling chang’aa to killed the snake, and later this young man picked up the snake,” said his uncle.
Chemogoch Village in Schock After Bizzare Incident
The uncle further narrated that the 15-year-old was prompted to take the snake home after the locals told him that the snake was sent by someone who might be jealous of his business.
“Later, this young man grabbed the snake. Then the locals deceived him, saying that maybe the snake had been sent to him to prevent him from getting customers. That’s when the young man got angry and carried the snake all the way home,” the Uncle narrated.

According to the 15-year-old boy’s mother, when her son arrived home, he showed her a dead snake that was in his pocket. He then ran to the river to drink water while eating the snake.
“He said, ‘Mother, wait, let me show you,’ then I screamed. He ran off to the stream, ate the whole snake, and drank some water,” recounted Emmy Ruto, the boy’s mother.
15-Year-Old Prompted to Consume Snake After Locals Advise
After having learned that the 15-year-old boy rushed to the river to eat the snake, the uncle rushed to the scene with the other locals to rescue him.
They rushed him to the hospital after discovering that the snake’s venom had started to take effect.
“When I tried to stop him, people told me he had been bitten by the snake. We tied him up and rushed him to the hospital,” said John Ruto, the boy’s uncle.

Speaking about his condition, Dr. Valentine Mbithi, a physician at Litein Mission Hospital, described the case as unprecedented.
“This is an extremely rare case. We’ve never seen anything like this before, but he’s now stable and recovering in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) after being discharged from ICU,” said Dr. Valentine Mbithi.
