The Communications Authority in partnership with the ICT Authority through the launch of the last-mile fibre optic cable connectivity will connect 19 counties to low-cost internet services.
Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Tana River, and Lamu will benefit from the initiative.
Others are Kilifi, Kwale, Kitui, Laikipia, Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Narok.
In accordance with the Technical Cooperation Agreement (TCA), CA will provide Sh5 billion from the Universal Service Fund (USF) to the deployment of fiber in the designated counties.
The mission of USF is to assist in the deployment of communications and infrastructure in underserved regions of the nation.

The Government Digital Transformation Agenda (GoDTA) aims to install 100,000 kilometers of fiber to increase broadband activity throughout the nation.
‘‘What we are doing today is phenomenal and will greatly transform the country in the years to come,” said CA Director General Ezra Chiloba at the signing ceremony.
The agreement gives effect to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two institutions in December 2022.
The project will be implemented within a maximum period of three years.
