The Catholic University of Eastern Africa has suspended a security guard who was captured in a video manhandling a female student at the university’s entrance.
In a statement dated March 5, the university management said it had taken note of the video and reaffirmed that it does not tolerate any form of violence, intimidation, or unprofessional conduct against members of the university community.
“The security guard involved, who is deployed by a third-party security service provider contracted by the University has been immediately suspended from duty pending ongoing investigations and appropriate disciplinary action,” read part of the statement.
The institution said the security officer involved was deployed by a third-party security service provider contracted by the university, and that he was under investigation, with appropriate disciplinary action to be taken.
CUEA management said it had begun the necessary review processes and was engaging the security service provider to ensure full accountability.
The University reiterated that the dignity, safety, and respectful treatment of students remain paramount to the institution.
The university also urged members of the university community and the public to remain calm as the matter is handled.
Uproar As Security Guard Confronts Female Student at Catholic University
A video circulating on social media showing a confrontation between a security guard and a student at the gate of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) had sparked concern and outrage among Kenyans.
In the clip, the guard was seen grabbing a female student, prompting outrage online and calls from netizens for immediate disciplinary action.

A female schoolmate attempted to intervene, but the guard briefly loosened his grip before resuming his hold on the student.
The scuffle continued for a short time, with the student trying to break free as bystanders watched, until a small crowd stepped in to separate them.

Reactions From Kenyans
A Kenyan took to social media to defend the student and call for accountability.

Another X user reacted to the viral video, expressing concern about the security guard’s actions.
