Canadian singer Celine Dion has called out former US President Donald Trump for using her song at a Presidential campaign event without permission.
In a statement dated August 10, Celine Dion’s team said Trump used her song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ which is on the famous 1997 Titanic film.
The song was played to Trump’s supporters before her appeared on stage at a rally in Bozeman, Montana, on Friday, August 9.
“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc, became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On” at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” the statement read in part.
The team explained that Celine Dion didn’t authorize the use and questioned why Trump went for that particular song.
“In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use…And really, that song?” Celine Dion posed.
This comes after other artists and bands including Neil Young, Queen and the Rolling Stones previously complained about Trump using their songs at campaign rallies.
The song first appeared on the Titanic soundtrack, released on November 7, 1997, which sold at least 15 million copies worldwide.
As such, this was the biggest selling single of 1998. In the UK it sold 1,312,551 copies, making Celine Dion the only woman with two million-selling singles in Britain.
