President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto has reacted to online criticism about her dressing code and forehead.
During a TV interview, Charlene said she has experienced a lot of cyberbullying after deciding to quit her private life and engaging in public issues.
The president’s daughter explained that she loves her forehead and always ensures that she goes for hairstyles that leave it exposed and visible.
“It came with a lot of online scrutiny about my dressing, how I do my makeup and about my hair. I have a big forehead and I love it. I really love my forehead and I don’t hide it; I even tell the people who style my hair not to hide it because it’s there, I love it and God blessed me with it,” she said.
While addressing the issue of trending for negative reasons, Charlene revealed that people tried to push a negative political perception before the polls by creating fake accounts with her name.
“I was so mad because they were posting things I would never say and do. That’s when I decided to own my own story,” she stated.
She explained that she started doing county visits and planting trees at a personal level without engaging her dad, the president.
Charlene Ruto on Creating Her Own Path
According to Charlene, Ruto has been in politics for decades and ascending to more powerful positions already became a normal thing in the family.
“To be honest with you, I had forgotten that my dad had become the president. He has been in politics for about thirty years,” she added.

“So, it is like seeing one of your best friends grow from a Member of Parliament (MP) to becoming a minister to a deputy president and to becoming a president. You get used to it as you go along.”
Charlene stated that people used to wonder what she was going to do in the counties, and she could encounter tight security visits during her tours.
“Even when I was giving to the counties as Charlene. I wanted to learn and see how people are living and what they are doing,” Charlene explained.
Newspapers and Local Media
The first daughter also wondered why the local media focused so much on her rather than covering other important issues affecting the country.
“I could see my face on the front page of the papers, and I was also surprised because I asked myself is really what was doing was of the greatest interest to our nation. Don’t we have better things to discuss,” she stated.

Stopping Cyber Bullying
Besides, she revealed that the online negativity prompted her to include cyber bullying as one of the thirty things she wants to work on.
According to Charlene, youth should use social media to encourage and talk positively about each other instead of using it for cyber bullying.
She mentioned that working with the youth is so refreshing and doesn’t drain her.
