The gruesome discovery of mutilated bodies in Kware dumpsite at Mukuru kwa Njenga slum has captured the nation’s attention.
Amidst the tragedy, one man, Charles Wambua, has emerged as a hero, winning the hearts of Kenyans with his bold actions and unwavering commitment to retrieving the bodies.
In an interview with Citizen tv, Wambua a casual worker in the Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum, recalled how he found himself doing the peculiar job.
He notes that his involvement in the incident all began on that fateful Friday of July 12 when he received a distress call from friends near the quarry.
“I received a call from guys around the quarry telling me that there was a woman looking for me, ” said Wambua.

Wambua Recounts How He Discovered the Bodies
Upon arriving at the scene, he made a horrifying discovery, a woman’s body, chopped up and stuffed inside a sack.
“When I arrived and entered the quarry, I found a woman’s body chopped into pieces and stuffed in a sack,” said Wambua.
Undeterred by the grisly sight, Wambua continued his search, uncovering more sacks containing dismembered body parts.
“I opened another sack and found that it contained another human body, so I asked myself, who dumped these bodies here. As the search went on, we found body after body,” he recounted.
Additionally, Wambua revealed that over the course of 6 hours, he along with other youth present had retrieved a total of 8 sacks, all filled with human remains.
It was with this discovery that the alarm was raised, and authorities promptly arrived at the scene launching investigations into the horrific incident.
For the next two days, Wambua said he camped at the quarry working tirelessly alongside the DCI homicide team, helping to recover a total of 9 bodies and 12 body parts.

Wambua Reveals His Past Experience Retrieving Bodies in Mukuru
This, however, was not the first time Wambua had assisted in such a mission.
He revealed that he had been contacted by the police in the past to help retrieve human remains, having recovered other bodies before this tragedy in the same area.
“I used to retrieve one body from the area then after a year or so I’d receive reports that another person had thrown themselves into the quarry then I get called upon to go assist in the retrieval.”
“Like recently, we retrieved the body of a man in the month of April last year 2023,” he said.
Despite the grim and peculiar nature of his task, Wambua says his determination never wavered.

He acknowledged that this time, the situation was different, as the discovered bodies were dismembered and in poor condition.
Now, Wambua has called on the government urging them to provide safety gear and equipment to aid those like him involved in the recovery process
He believes there are more bodies inside the quarry and expressed his willingness to continue his courageous efforts to assist in the probe and bring closure to the victims’ families.
