Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday, January 30, evening arrested a conman in a restaurant in Nairobi CBD with Ksh1.5 million.
Confirming the arrest, EACC Spokesperson Erick Ngumbi stated that the man identified as Mark Kipruto was caught unawares while he was counting the cash and stashing it in a brown envelope.
According to the commission, Kipruto had demanded the amount as bribe from an individual, allegedly claiming that he was the personal assistant to an unnamed Principal Secretary.
The PS was then meant to receive the cash from Kipruto and assist the person to secure a job as Chief Executive Officer of the South Nyanza Sugar Company.
The Chief Executive Officer of the South Nyanza Sugar Company position was advertised on December 5, 2023.

Further, Ngumbi explained that the complainant reported to the agency after the suspect asked him for the bribe.
EACC then began its investigations immediately, working with the complainant to secure evidence against Kipruto and catch him in the act.
The suspect was then trailed to the restaurant after pocketing the bribe and arrested.
Kipruto was taken to Integrity Center where he was being held for processing and would later be transferred to Kilimani police station.
