Popular content creator Muchiri Mike has issued an update following his arrest on Thursday July 11.
In a statement, the comedian and singer informed his online followers that he was safe and free and that he had a number of lawyers with him to help him out.
“I have a multitude of lawyers with me. I’m ok,” he said.
Activist Bonface Mwangi also issued a statement informing the public that Muchiri was safe.
Muchiri is Arrested
Muchiri has been actively involved in anti-government protests and has openly criticized the current political leadership on his massive social media platforms.
He had been arrested while live on Instagram in the Kasarani area. At the time of his arrest, Muchiri was interacting with fans when his live session suddenly stopped.

In a video that has now gone viral, Muchiri can be seen in his car driving, lamenting about the situation.
“Please guys amplify on Twitter Wamenisimamisha hapa Kasarani Police Station, but I feel like I’m being targeted cause they have trailed me from town,” said Muchiri.
Muchiri then notified his followers on X that he had been arrested at Kasarani, writing, “They are arresting me at Kasarani.”
However, he did not provide details on the reason for the arrest, where he was being held, or who was behind it.
Kenyans React to the Arrest of Muchiri Mike
Muchiri’s arrest sparked reactions among Kenyans online with many calling for his immediate release.
This incident follows a recent trend of individuals expressing opposition to the government facing arrests, sometimes even from plain-clothed individuals claiming to be police.
Fellow content creator Esther Kazungu confirmed Muchiri’s arrest but asked fans to wait for the full story before jumping to conclusions.
“Mike’s been arrested and it’s unclear whether it’s a traffic offence or the government doing government things. Don’t want to jump into conclusions yet but we’re following up,” she said
Activist Boniface Mwangi also reacted to news of his arrest, offering to help the content creator.

He also urged the public to turn up at the station in solidarity to protest against the arrest.
“Mike Muchiri is currently being held by the DCI at Kasarani Police Station. We should go there in solidarity and ask for the reasons for his arrest.”
“Today is Mike, tomorrow it will be me or you. Don’t let your silence make you think you’re safe. Nobody is safe,” he said.
Muchiri’s Activism During the Anti-finance bill protests
Muchiri has gained a promince in recent months for his bold opposition of the controversial finance bill and becoming one of the most vocal anti-government celebrity voices online.
During the onset of the protests in early June, Muchiri played a crucial role in fueling the Gen Z movement by translating the Finance Bill into a number of local Kenyan languages.
This made the document easily accessible and understandable to Kenyans from all walks of life.
