A traffic police officer has warmed the hearts of many Kenyans after a video of him stopping traffic to teach school children how to safely cross the road went viral.
In the video seen by The Kenya Times the pupils are seen standing in a horizontal line at the side of the road as the traffic police officer demonstrates how they should cross the road.
Motorists stopped by the officer can also be seen patiently waiting as the officer illustrates how one should safely cross the road.
“You look right, then left, then right again,” he chanted as the pupils keenly observed.
Also, the officer is heard politely calling out those who were not concentrating as they chanted the ‘mantra’ for crossing the road.
“Some of you are saying right, but you are not looking. That’s how you get knocked by a vehicle,” he cautioned.
An onlooker is also heard in the background taking part in the roadside class saying, “Yes, look right, left, right again. Now hold hands and cross.”
Thereafter, the pupils did as was directed by the traffic police officer and proceeded to safely cross the road.

Directives by NTSA to Drivers on Students Safety
The deed by the traffic officer comes a few weeks after the Ministry of Roads assured safety of all school going children with NTSA conducting a crackdown on school buses.
This was to limit the cases of road accidents especially those involving school buses.
In a May 12 statement by NTSA right before schools reopened, the authority urged drivers to be cautious on the road to ensure safety of all students.
NTSA also explained that it is a collective responsibility to ensure that the children arrive at their respective schools safely, further highlighting violations that should be avoided.
“School transport like all Public Service Vehicles, must comply with traffic rules and regulations. Violations include defective speed limiter and faded chevron and reflectors,” NTSA stated.
