In addition, the statement said detectives from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau based at the DCI Nairobi Regional Command have cast their nets wider for more suspects in what is believed to be an elaborate syndicate sneaking stolen mobile phones to neighboring countries.

Additionally, the Directorate explained that stolen mobile phones dealers have found it hard to operate in Kenya due to the mobile tracking technology deployed by the detectives.

Stolen Goods in Uganda

On October 7, DCI released a statement indicating that its detectives tracked stolen goods worth over Ksh.267 million to Uganda.

The Directorate said its detectives recovered 7,420 bags equivalent to 7 containers of the lost goods at Liberty Internal Container Depot, a logistical company located along Bweyogere Industrial Area in Kampala.

According to the statement, an Indian man named Surya Parkash, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kutch Chemical Industries LTD filed a complaint accusing Ugandan businessmen of defrauding him.

In his complaint, Parkash reported that his company supplied a consignment of 104 containers of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), a reagent used as a cleansing agent, to what turned out to be fictitious companies through the Mombasa port.

Parkash said the five Ugandan companies that ordered the consignment went under as soon as the last container landed at Mombasa port and cut off communication with him.
