Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have arrested two suspects in Kisumu in possession of a Phantom pistol.
In a statement dated April 26, the DCI confirmed that the detectives arrested the suspects along the Kisumu-Busia Highway.
The two suspects, identified as Evans Otieno Ongere and Abel Onyango Owuor, were intercepted by the detectives and arrested on criminal charges and weapon possession.
“A team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters has apprehended two suspects and seized a Phantom pistol in Kisumu. Acting on intelligence, the detectives set a strategic ambush along the bustling Kisumu-Busia Highway,” part of the statement read.
According to the DCI, the two suspects were in a sleek black Toyota Prado with the registration number KCB 411A.
Recovered Items
Upon the arrest, the detectives conducted a vehicle search where they recovered a Phantom pistol, a machete in a black sheath, and three mobile phones.
All the recovered items are being treated as potential instruments of the crime as detectives continue their investigation.

In addition to the recovered potential instruments of the crime, the impounded Toyota and the suspects were escorted to Maseno Police Station for processing, pending arraignment.
The confiscated items and the vehicle are being detained as crucial exhibits in the ongoing investigation.
DCI Illegal Firearm Possession Suspects Arrest
During a recent intelligence operation in Kware and Mandazi Road areas, Cyrus Mureithi Mburu, aged 54, and Peter Kangethe, a 49-year-old man, were arrested with possession of a Ceska Pistol and taken to Ngong Police Station.
Reports from the detectives on April 17 indicated that the Ceska pistol with the serial F9418 had been robbed from a Security of Government Buildings officer.
In addition to the pistol, the two suspects had in their possession a magazine with 15 rounds of 9mm ammo, gun oil, two imitation firearms, handcuffs, keys, and a Maasai sword.

In a separate case, detectives had raided a residence in Nyametaburo Location, Migori County, in early April. They recovered illegal homemade firearms, one round of ammunition, a twisted metal rod, a balaclava, and a Maasai sword.
During the raid, James Mukwabe Soko, a repeat offender, and Daniel Muronge Rioba were arrested.
Further, on April 24, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested three suspects attempting to break into the Viraj Complex Godowns.
According to the report by the detectives, a white Mitsubishi Canter vehicle with registration numbers KAQ 198G, concealed with polythene bags with the intention of transporting stolen goods, was confiscated.
Additionally, during the search, the stolen goods were discovered inside the vehicle used by the suspects, Stephen Mwangi, Peter Okumu, and Kennedy Wanyingi.
