Liberty Kenya Holdings PLC has announced leadership changes within its governance structure following the resignation of Doreen Onwong’a.
In a notice dated December 10, 2025, Liberty confirmed that Doreen Onwong’a will leave her position effective December 15, 2025.
“The board of directors of Liberty Kenya Holdings PLC (the Company) announces that Ms. Doreen Onwong’a will resign as the Company Secretary effective 15th December 2025,” read part of the statement.
The board expressed gratitude for Doreen Ong’owa’s contributions to the company, acknowledging her significant contributions during her the at the insurance company.
“The board thanks Doreen Onwong’a for her service and wishes her the best in her future endeavors,” read the statement.
New Era for Liberty Kenya
In the notice, the board also announced the appointment of Mueni Mutunga as the Interim Company Secretary.
According to Liberty Kenya, her appointment becomes effective upon completion of the required regulatory approvals.
“The board has appointed Ms. Mueni Mutunga as Interim Company Secretary, subject to regulatory approvals,” read part of the statement.
Mueni holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Oil and Gas Law from Strathmore University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Bachelor of Laws in Business Administration and Law (LL. B) from the University of Nairobi.
She has over 30 years of experience providing in-house legal counsel on a range of business, corporate, commercial, ethics, and compliance matters.

Mueni has a proven track record of leading high-performing teams, delivering cutting-edge and complex legal projects, and adapting to changing priorities and organizational needs.
Educational Background of Doreen Onwong’a
Doreen holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
She attended Moi Girls High School in Eldoret for her secondary Education.
She is also an award-winning Certified Secretary, having been recognized as the 2018 KASNEB top-performing student in Governance and Secretarial Audit.
Career Background
In 2022, Doreen Onwong’a became a Partner at Qwasha Corporate Services LLP, part of KN Law LLP.
From 2017 to 2019, she served as a Senior Legal & Compliance Associate at Genghis Capital, a leading investment solutions provider in Kenya.
Between 2012 and 2015, Doreen Onwong’a worked as a Legal Associate at Nyachae & Ashitiva Advocates, focusing on real estate, commercial law, and alternative dispute resolution.

She is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
