As excitement builds among Kenyans and football fans across the world ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the government and organizers have announced a series of stringent measures to ensure safety and order during the tournament.
The CHAN matches will be held across Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums, with the highly anticipated final scheduled for August 30. Kenya will jointly host the tournament alongside Tanzania and Uganda, from August 2 to August 30.
According to the Ministry of Sports, fans will only gain access to the stadiums using digital tickets, which must be purchased exclusively online. No physical tickets will be accepted at the gates.
Fans can purchase their tickets online through the official CHAN ticketing portal, with payments made via M-Pesa or bank card.
Once confirmed, ticket holders will receive a digital confirmation by SMS or email, which they can present at the stadium gate.
Fans without smartphones can buy tickets through cybercafés or borrow a friend’s device.

- Ticket verification by trained stewards.
- Main security check, including personal item screening.
- Guided entry to your designated seating area.
Additionally, a CHAN Security Hotline has been launched to allow the public to report any suspicious activity, threats, or safety concerns in real-time.

To maintain order during the tournament, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) has banned a wide range of items commonly associated with lively football celebrations.
These include vuvuzelas, megaphones, loudspeakers, whistles, drums, and any other noise-making devices.
“If it explodes, offends, blocks, blasts or distracts, it stays outside,” reads part of a guidance statement from the CHAN organisers.
Other Prohibited Items Include:
- Firearms and sharp objects
- Flares and fireworks
- Signal jamming or blocking devices
- Political banners and offensive signage
- Large backpacks and helmets
- Takeaway food and drinks
- Pets (only service animals permitted)
Food brought from outside will also not be allowed unless it is for infants or medical reasons.
The LOC has also banned any offensive or political banners, including those targeting political, religious or personal identity.
The ban further extends to electronic devices that could interfere with stadium systems.

However, fans are still encouraged to come with the spirit that defines football culture. Permitted items include team jerseys, national flags, mobile phones, your friends, your voice, and most importantly, your best match-day energy.
The government and tournament organizers are urging fans to adhere to the guidelines to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and memorable CHAN 2024.
