Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua plans to organize an intergovernmental meeting with central region Governors to discuss plans of tackling illicit brews and Alcoholism in the region.
Moreover, alcoholism has emerged as a major challenge in central regions rendering a large portion of the adult population unproductive.
As such alcoholism has been seen as a threat to the region’s demographic dominance.
While speaking during an interview with a local broadcaster on Friday, March 17, the second in command stated that the meeting will address how “killer brews” can be eradicated once and for all.
“I will convene a meeting soon in this region where we must eradicate these brews once. It would be a tragedy if my tribe is finished by these brews while in the office. This is unacceptable,” said Gachagua.

Likewise, the deputy president sad the meeting will ensure all stakeholders execute their respective responsibilities in implementing new measures.
He added that stakeholders who will be unable will be shown the door.
“What is currently happening is that counties license bars in effort to earn more revenue. National government officers then look the other way while our people die. This is unacceptable and must be stopped,” said the DP.
Gachagua further stated that during the planned meeting to end alcoholism each national administration officer will commit to eradicate the brews in his or her respective area.
The Regional Commissioner shall host the meeting.
In addition, the second in command accused unnamed tycoons of manufacturing and selling illicit brews in the region.
“I have instructed Kenya Revenue Authority that even if we need money, we must be sensitive to the needs of the society. We don’t need blood money,” he said.
He noted that the state is keen on reverting licensing of bars to the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).
