Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced the arrest of 10 County government officials implicated in non-existent road tender projects.
In statement released on May 6, 2024, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission noted that the suspects who are officials from Ol Kalou Constituency’s National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and directors of private companies will be arraigned before the Nyahururu Anti-Corruption Court.
The suspects are said to have embezzled Ksh 55.8 million allocated for road projects within the constituency, despite the absence of any corresponding work.
“EACC will this morning, at 9am, arraign before Nyahururu Anti-Corruption Court ten (10) Ol Kalou Constituency NG-CDF Officials and Directors of private companies, who embezzled Kes.55.8 million purported to be payments for road projects in the constituency, which were never done,” stated EACC.
EACC List Suspect’s Names
The suspects, who were apprehended and processed at the EACC Nyeri Regional Offices on May 3, 2024, are as follows:
- John Kariuki Kimani
- Simon Nduati Kariuki
- Ludovick Ngera Gachara
- Jerush Waithera Wambui
- Samuel Ngugi Gachuki
- Peter Mburu Mwangi
- Charles Chuaga Ndung’u
- Janerose Muthoni Wachira
- Titus Kibui Kariuki
- Dominic Mulwa Kasina
The charges, totaling 16 counts of corruption and economic crimes, were recommended by the EACC and subsequently endorsed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“The arraignment comes after Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) concurred with recommendations of the Commission to charge the suspects with 16 counts of corruption and economic crimes,” read EACC statement.
Moreover, the arrest of 10 NG-CDF officials follows the release of concerning insights from the National Ethics and Corruption Survey Report, 2023, conducted in December of that year.

Highlighting prevailing perceptions and levels of corruption, the report revealed that six out of every ten Kenyans view corruption as rampant.
Similarly, it indicated a troubling trend, with half of the population believing that corruption has been on the rise.
Key findings from the survey identified bribery, abuse of power, favoritism, nepotism, and deliberate service delays as the primary forms of corruption in public service.
In addition, the Police, Immigration Department, and Registrar of Persons emerged as the government entities most susceptible to corrupt practices.

The root causes of corruption, as outlined in the report, include greed and the desire for expedited services.
This pervasive corruption has detrimental effects on the nation’s economy, exacerbating unemployment, poverty, and escalating cost of living.
