The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Abdi Mohamud has been elected to the executive committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA).
Mohamud together with other leaders will work closely with IAACA members and partners on various initiatives in the next three years.

The EACC CEO will represent Africa alongside members from South Africa, Mauritius, Senegal and Morocco.
The Executive Committee (ExCo) is the managing body of IAACA. It consists of a President, four Vice-Presidents, and thirteen members with the appointment of two advisers and an observer.

Mohamud’s election to the Hong Kong-based body occurred during IAACA’s 14th General Meeting on February 6, 2025.
The commission said the election of the EACC’s CEO to the organization is an “acknowledgement of Kenya’s continued strides in preventing and combating corruption”.

About the Global Anti-Corruption Association
IAACA is an anti-corruption organization mandated to promote the effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and assist Anti-Corruption Authorities (ACAs) worldwide in the prevention of and fight against corruption.
It comprises 180 anti-corruption authorities from different countries and regions.

Its responsibilities include promoting international cooperation in the prevention, investigation and adjudication of corruption offences, and facilitating the exchange of expertise among global anti-corruption authorities.
It is also the role of IAACA to promote measures for the prevention of corruption in both the public and private sectors and examining comparative criminal law and procedure and best practices.
Meanwhile, UNCAC was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 31 October 2003 to strengthen international cooperation in fighting and preventing corruption.
At the conference held in Merida, Mexico in December 2003 for signing the UNCAC, the delegates suggested that an international anti-corruption organization should be established to help implement UNCAC effectively.
With the support of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (the Secretariat of UNCAC) and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China, the first Annual Conference and General Meetings of the IAACA was convened in Beijing, China in October 2006 marking the formation of IAACA.

Abdi Mohamud Education and Professional Career
Prior to his appointment as the EACC CEO, Mohamud served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Director in charge of Investigations at the commission.
Before joining the EACC in 2005, Mohamud had served in the National Police Service for nearly two decades, where he rose through the ranks.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the fight against corruption, he was awarded the national honours of Head of State Commendation (HSC) and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) by the Head of State and Government.
Mohamud is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a seasoned investigator with over three decades of experience in investigating corruption and economic crimes.
Additionally, he has undergone various training programs both locally and internationally on diverse aspects of corruption investigation and prevention.
Mohamud also holds a Master of Science Degree in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Mt. Kenya University and a Professional Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
