Earlier, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) issued a road safety alert following forecasts of persistent rainfall across the country.
This move followed the Kenya Meteorological Department’s prediction of moderate to heavy downpours in both urban and rural areas, increasing the risk of flooding, slippery roads, and reduced visibility for motorists and pedestrians.
The following are KeNHA’s safety recommendations to motorists:
- Slow down and maintain a safe following distance.
- Avoid overtaking during heavy rain or fog.
- Do not attempt to drive through flooded sections.
- Motorcyclists and cyclists should wear reflective gear for visibility.
- Pedestrians should avoid walking near fast-moving traffic during heavy rainfall.
In addition, the Authority warned that heavy downpours may lead to traffic delays, temporary road closures, and increased accident risks, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
