“The last time I spoke to my son on Saturday. He told me that he would come and settle me because I live in rentals. We agreed that we would talk again,” Wanjiku said.
Kabiru Taking Care of Family While Away
Despite being part of a Multinational Security Operation team, Kabiru remained concerned about his family back home ensuring their well-being even as he faced the gangs in Haiti.
Watimu said the officer purchased a woofer and an iron box from an online store after receiving complaints from her.
“I had told him the woofer at home wasn’t working well, but it turns out he had ordered one online together with an iron box and wanted to surprise me. The woofer was delivered, and we were supposed to talk to tell him how it was, but instead, we were told he is missing,” added Watimu.
The 34-year-old father of one had embraced the Haiti mission when he was selected by his seniors.
Having been attached to the Border Patrol Unit since he joined the police service in 2016, he brought invaluable to the operation as a driver, mechanic and bomb disposal expert.

Plea to Social Media Users
The wife said Kabiru was bold and optimistic that the Kenya police would help bring peace in Haiti.
“He always encourages me saying that things are not that bad in Haiti. Kabiru boasted that the MSS is highly skilled and would crush the gangs but recently he told me they were moved to another camp,” Watimu added.
However, Wanjiku has asked social media users to stop posting misleading information about his son.
She stated that people are already announcing that he is dead even without considering the feelings of his family.
“What affects me are the reports on social media. People are still posting that he is dead, not married and many other things. I’m urging people to stop spreading these reports until I give permission to say that he is dead. But I know that he is still alive,” she said.
