Father’s Day is a holiday dedicated to honoring fathers, fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the profound influence of fathers in society.
It is celebrated in every third Sunday of June.

The Origin of Father’s Day
Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington is credited for originating the holiday. Her father, a Civil War veteran, raised Dodd and her five siblings single-handedly after their mother died in childbirth.
In 1909, Dodd conceived the idea for Father’s Day while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day, which was gaining recognition as a holiday at that time.
Local religious leaders supported her idea, and the first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, coinciding with the birthday month of Dodd’s father.
In 1924, U.S President Calvin Coolidge endorsed the observance, and in 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued a proclamation officially recognizing the day.

Father’s Day became a national holiday in 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed legislation designating the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day.
Originally rooted in religious observance, Father’s Day has since been commercialized with the exchange of greeting cards and gifts.
Some traditions include wearing a red rose to signify a living father or a white rose in remembrance of a deceased father.
The day also extends to honoring other male figures, such as grandfathers or uncles who have taken on paternal roles.
