A family in Isebania in Migori County is in shock following the death of Anthony Macharia, a form four student who was shot by police officers.
While speaking to the press, the family of the deceased revealed that he was shot hours before his scheduled return to school after the end of the midterm break.
Macharia’s sister Teressia Mwangi, while in tears, said that she received a call from an unknown person to inform her of the incident.
Her brother, she said, had left the house to buy some essential commodities for school at the nearby center and was not among the anti-government protestors.
“He had gone to some shopping so that he can travel back to school in the evening. He was so happy because he was going to complete his high school education. Now they have cracked open his heart and he is no more, ” Macharia’s sister Teressia Mwangi said while in tears.

Mother of Student and Other Relatives Speak
According to the mother of Anthony Macharia, he was shot in the chest and died on Tuesday, July 2, while protests were ongoing in Isebania in Migori county.
She expressed her shock over the incident, noting that she was still in disbelief.
“I received a phone call from someone asking me if I was the parent of Macharia. The person who called told me that he had been shot on the chest,” Miriam Patrick, Macharia’s mother said.
Another family member lamented that the government had turned against the youth in the country pleading with authorities to punish mothers instead of killing their children.
Moreover, they are blaming Isebania police officers for using excessive force while handling protestors.
“We voted for them, why have they turned on us and are killing our children? Why won’t he just kills us mothers and leave our children alone…Why won’t he just finish us and stop killing our children?” a relative in tears lamented.
