Former Bahati Member of Parliament (MP) Kimani Ngunjiri has exposed bad practices within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party days after ditching it.
Ngujiri was addressing the press in Nakuru on Sunday, April 7, 2024, when he claimed that some public figures within the party were responsible for grabbing parcels of land across the country.
The former lawmaker further claimed that some of the leaders in UDA were responsible for the recent supply of fake fertilizer in the country.
“The party here is being run by individuals who have brought a lot of problems and that’s why I won’t be part of the problems caused. When you come to Nakuru County, you know the messes that have been done. The people behind the counterfeit fertilizer you are hearing about come from this county,” he said.
Ngunjiri made the sentiments while he and a section of UDA supporters came out to distance themselves from the county’s party affairs.
At the same time, the former legislator claimed that the party at the county level was a one-man show, with actions taken by senior members casting it in bad light.

According to him the party had lost its popularity and would suffer a huge loss in its upcoming grass roots elections.
He further revealed that he would be selecting one of the Kenya Kwanza’s coalition parties and defect to it even as he strategizes a political comeback.
Ngunjiri Ditches UDA
His sentiments come just days after he severed ties with the ruling party after announcing his exit while speaking during a radio interview on April 3, 2024.
“I want to say in this media and everybody in Kenya to hear me, I am not in UDA myself. I will never wear yellow anymore,” Ngunjiri said.
While answering why he quit UDA, the former Bahati lawmaker claimed the party conducted a flawed nomination exercise that rewarded families, friends and cronies.
According to him, the party dished out seven nomination slots to one powerful family in his home county of Nakuru.

“Because I have been with Moi, I have been with Kibaki, I know the structure of election. I know how the people should put people together, I know how you should get your right on nomination, it did not work. My people in Bahati who supported the UDA they got nothing,” Ngunjiri lamented.
The former Bahati MP while vowing not to align himself with the party however stated that he would support President William Ruto in the next election.
Kimani lost the Bahati parliamentary seat while vying on a UDA ticket in the 2022 general election to his rival, Jubilee Party’s Irene Njoki.
Following his loss, the former Bahati legislator went on to land a plum government job after being named among the 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) appointed by President Ruto.
However, a July 4, 2023, court ruling rendered him jobless again declaring that the position of CASs was abolished in September 2022.
