Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has opened up about what he expects will happen if the court confirms his impeachment, saying he is ready to take the next legal step while urging his supporters to remain calm.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated court ruling during a church service in Karen, Nairobi, Gachagua said he has full confidence in the judiciary and is prepared for any outcome the judges deliver.
He said that if the court finds the impeachment unlawful and overturns it, he will accept the decision with gratitude.
“If the judges find that we were treated unfairly and against the law and the Constitution and lift the impeachment, we shall be very grateful,” he said.
Gachagua noted that such a decision would strengthen faith in the country’s justice system and prove that institutions are working.
However, he made it clear that he is equally ready if the ruling goes against him.
Gachagua Ready for Court Ruling
Gachagua revealed that he will immediately pursue an appeal if the court upholds his impeachment, insisting that the Constitution provides legal channels that must be followed.
“If the ruling goes the other way, it is still okay. We will still have an opportunity to go to the Court of Appeal and follow the legal remedies provided by the Constitution,” he said.
The former deputy president maintained that his fight is not just personal but also about justice and fairness, saying he believes the courts will ultimately uphold the law.

He also reiterated his belief that the judiciary is independent and capable of delivering a fair judgment.
“I have confidence that our judiciary is independent, impartial and will give justice,” he said.
At the same time, Gachagua made a passionate appeal to his supporters across the country to remain peaceful regardless of the outcome.
He warned against any form of violence or unlawful action, saying such behaviour would only worsen the situation.
“I want to urge my supporters, irrespective of the outcome, to remain calm and peaceful,” he said.
He added that any anger should not be expressed through chaos, but rather through democratic means such as elections.
“Suppress your anger but keep it. Next year you will have an opportunity to express it at the ballot box,” he told his supporters.
Call for Peace
Gachagua said he has consistently encouraged restraint among his supporters even during difficult political moments, noting that peace should always come first.

He recalled advising his followers to stay quiet and composed when he was removed from office, insisting that maintaining order is more important than reacting emotionally.
The former deputy president further stressed that Kenya’s stability must be protected at all costs, saying no individual is bigger than the country.
“This country is bigger than any one of us, and we need a peaceful country. Life must go on irrespective of what happens,” he said.
He also took a moment to highlight the broader challenges facing Kenyans, including issues in healthcare, education and security, saying leaders must focus on solving them.
Gachagua concluded by calling for prayers and unity, expressing hope that the country will overcome its challenges regardless of political differences.
Gachagua’s case could have major political consequences as the court ruling may reshape Kenya’s leadership and alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
It will also shape how future impeachment cases are handled under the Constitution, setting a precedent for similar disputes.
The ruling will be delivered on June 8, 2026, at 11 am at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
