Anti-government protestors led by the Gen Z have planned to storm the office of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Protestors in the demonstration dubbed #OccupyGovernorWanga’sOffice, claim that they are rising against massive corruption in Homabay County.

In the viral poster seen by The Kenya Times the Gen Zs allege that Wanga is involved in the misappropriation of a Ksh 3 billion development fund, delay in staff salaries, and massive looting by Wanga’s brother.
Other allegations include significant theft by the County Assembly and the total failure of the Homa Bay County Assembly.

Gladys Wanga Asks Luos to Refrain from Protests
This comes after Wanga while speaking at an event in Homa Bay County asked the Luo community to exclude themselves from the current protests led by Gen Z.
She emphasized that they should refrain from joining battles that do not directly concern them, noting the community has already had substantial losses.

“What I can tell you as our people is that not all battles are ours and we must not try and win all of them. We have fought many battles and many of our youth have died. Last year we lost 75 people and all of them were.
“Even the 40 who have died right now you will find that most of them are from the Luo Community. We are going to bury one here in Karachuonyo. We must not fight all battles.”
Gen Zs in Homa Bay have however refused to be divided across tribal lines by the governor as the want to be part of larger Kenya that is going to bring change.
“Gladys Wanga thinks Luos should not fight “war that is not theirs”, that is, joining the Gen Z protests for good governance. I thought she was smarter than this. Indeed, political cousins have united, and they want us dead. Let is rise,” one of the X users said.

Ruto Announces Dates of National Dialogue
President William Ruto on July 9 announced six-day talks starting Monday, July 15, 2024, as he seeks to address the recent wave of anti-government protests.
Ruto stated that the multi-sectoral forum would involve 150 representatives from various sectors. The forum will focus on multiple issues affecting the country, including poor governance, corruption, tribalism, youth unemployment, and ballooning public debt.
In a bid to appease the youth who have been demanding his removal from State House, the Head of State said at least 50 seats at the forum would be reserved for young people.
The remaining 100 slots will be allocated to other interest groups, including the religious community, civil society, professional groups, and political parties.
“We will move ahead with the multisectoral forum, and we have agreed that a membership of 150 representatives of various stakeholders, fifty of whom shall be young people of Kenya, while the other 100 will be representatives of all the other sectors,” Ruto said.
