The government through the State Department of Foreign Affairs has announced a seven-day program dubbed the Jamhuri National Job Fair to be held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) from December 5 to December 11.

In a statement dated December 5, the government said that The Jamhuri National Job Fair, will bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including Government Ministries, the Private Sector, Civil Society Organizations, Educational Institutions, and job seekers, with the goal of addressing the country’s employment challenges and creating opportunities for Kenyan citizens.

President William Ruto is set to officially launch the program on December 5 at 2:00 P.M in KICC.

The theme of the event, “Jobs, Labour Migration, Entrepreneurship, and Entertainment,” reflects the Government’s commitment to economic empowerment, youth employment, and sustainable job creation through innovative avenues.

According to the government, this Job Fair is a strategic initiative aimed at addressing the country’s unemployment challenges, empowering Kenyan youth and workers, and boosting the nation’s economic growth by facilitating direct connections between job seekers and employers.

It aligns with the Government’s objectives to promote employment, support entrepreneurship, and strengthen economic development as outlined in Kenya Vision 2030 and in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Objectives of the Jamhuri National Job Fair

The objectives of the Jamhuri National Job Fair are to:

  1. Promote employment opportunities: By facilitating direct connection between job seekers and potential employers in the public and private sectors and providing access to a wide range of job opportunities across various industries.
  2. Facilitate labour migration: Offers a platform for Kenyans to find employment abroad through ethical and regulated recruitment processes, ensuring a fair migration experience. It also creates avenues for collaboration with foreign governments and international organizations for labour placement in sectors such as healthcare, construction, and technology.
  3. Encourage entrepreneurship: By empowering individuals to explore entrepreneurship as a viable career path by providing resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities for new and aspiring businesses.
  4. Promote the entertainment industry: It highlights the growing role of the entertainment sector as a significant contributor to job creation, particularly for the youth, in fields like music, film, sports, content creation and digital media. The fair will showcase how the entertainment and creative industries can be leveraged as a driver of economic development, cultural export, and international collaboration.

Outcomes of the seven-day KICC event

The government further stated what to expect at the end of the event which includes the following outcomes:

  1. Recruitment and placement of job seekers into positions across various sectors.
  2. Enhanced skill matching between job seekers and employers, ensuring that the Kenyan workforce is aligned with industry needs.
  3. Increased support for MSMEs and entrepreneurs, leading to the creation of new businesses and job opportunities.
  4. Increased awareness and opportunities for ethical labour migration, facilitating safe and legal employment for Kenyans abroad.
  5. Enhanced visibility of Kenya’s entertainment industry, with increased collaboration in the global creative economy.
