The government has cautioned parents to avoid the last-minute rush in applying for birth certificates of their children before January school admission.
In a statement, Huduma Kenya asked parents whose kids were born in Nairobi to make the applications in time.
Further, the statement detailed that the applications, done through the E citizen platform, will cost Ksh180.
“For children born in Nairobi, application is done via either parent’s ecitizen portal account,” the statement read in part.

At the same time, the statement detailed that applicant would require official documents including PDF copies of the parent’s IDs and a birth certificate notification.
After the application process is complete, the parent is advised to visit the pick-up location with the invoice.

Also, they must carry their ID for collection after receiving a message from Huduma Kenya through e Citizen, notifying them that the certificate is ready for printing.
On the other hand, the public service provider answered questions from the public concerning changing the names of a child.
In its replies, Huduma Center clarified that after the child turns two years, a parent cannot change the names of the minor.
However, it did not specify the duration of time it will take for the processing of the birth certificates for students undergoing admissions to various schools in January 2024.
Parents seeking to register their children for the enrollment in schools and registration for national exams are required to have birth certificates for the children.
Documents Required for Application of Student Loan
At the same time, under the new education funding model, students are required to present their birth certificate to benefit from the loan.
Other items required to make the application include a copy of the student’s college or university admission letter, and their parents’ national ID number.
In addition, they will require a valid email address, KCPE and KCSE index numbers and the year examination was done, a passport-size photo, and a copy of the student’s national ID.
