Haiti’s Prime Minister Garry Conille has been fired by the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC), six months after assumption of office.
The governing council made the announcement through a gazette notice that was scheduled for release on November 11, 2024. In the notice the council went ahead to mention businessman and former Haiti Senate candidate Alix Didier Fils-Aime as Conille’s replacement.
Conille has responded to the decision by the council terming the oust as illegal and that it raises serious concerns about the future of Haiti. He also says the move was taken outside any constitutional or legal framework.
“This resolution, taken outside any legal and constitutional framework, raises serious concerns about its legitimacy,” Conille said in a letter.
He was sworn in on June 3, 2024, replacing Ariel Henry who was forced out of office by gangs. He was brought in to help Haiti through the ongoing security crisis.
