Jua Cali’s real name is Paul Julius Nunda, and he was born on September 12, 1979.
He is a legendary Kenyan hip-hop artist and record producer popularly known as the “King of Genge.” He is a pioneer of the Genge music genre, a style of Swahili- and Sheng-language rapping that reflects urban life in Nairobi.

His stage name, Jua Cali, is a play on the estate’s name, and some people take it to be the Swahili phrase Jua Kali, which means ‘know California,’ the estate he grew up in.
