Have you lost or mistakenly deleted your Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) token reset and update codes? Worry not, here is a simple guide on how to retrieve the codes for a successful update.
The Kenya Power company launched a campaign dubbed ‘Update Token Meter Yako’ on 12th June 2024.
Speaking, during the launch of the campaign KPLC managing director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Eng (DR) Joseph Siror, stated that customers would receive two codes from the company which would help them update their token meters as from the launch date.
“Customers will start receiving the updates notification today June 12 from the Kenya Power,” stated Siror.
“They will receive two codes via SMS from Kenya Power when they purchase tokens which will be a reset Code and an update Code. The first code is the reset code, and the second code is the update code.”
KPLC Update Meter Yako Retrieval Process
Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can retrieve lost KPLC token update codes.
1) Dial *977# on your mobile phone, select send
2) Select the prepaid services (1) option and then proceed.
3) Click on ‘update meter yako’ option (4) and then select send.

4) Enter your meter number
5) Proceed to a menu indicating the meter number, the reset code and the update code.
Prior to this, KPLC boss had clarified that the exercise was being conducted countrywide and targeted all customers using prepaid meters using the Standard Transfer Specifications (STS) an international System used for unique identification of tokens in the prepaid meters.
He said the STS has been used by over seven million Kenyans has come to an end and customers must move to a newer system.
In addition, the company clarified that the update process would not affect tokens already loaded into the meters. However, customers are advised to use any unspent tokens before proceeding with the update to avoid any potential invalidation.

However, customers who will not have updated their prepaid meters within the stipulated deadline will stop receiving their tokens.
“If you would not have updated your token meter by the deadline set by the power company, whenever you will attempt to buy a token and load, it will not,” KPLC boss stated.
The global deadline for updating these STS-compliant meters is set for November 24, 2024.
